New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie says she might have to auction off the well-worn and well-known blue fleece jacket her husband famously wore in the weeks after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Jersey shore.
The first lady chairs the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and she's already been offered a $1,000 donation in return for the fleece worn by Republican Gov. Chris Christie, not only through the Hurricane and its aftermath, but during his appearance last weekend on NBC's
"Saturday Night Live."
The first lady turned it down, according to the Newark Star-Ledger
, but left open the possibility she might reconsider auctioning it off at a later date. But she added, "I'd have to get a lot more than $1,000 for it."
The fleece has taken on sort of a life of its own since the hurricane. In addition to appearing on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segment, it's also been photographed with President Barack Obama, along with its owner, of course, and it has its own Twitter account.
Lately, though, it's been confined to the closet.
The Star-Ledger reports the governor showed up at a news conference earlier this week wearing a suit, of all things. Asked to account for the missing fleece, Christie joked he only wears it when things are "abnormal" in the state of New Jersey.
