The National Republican Senatorial Committee is spending another $2.3 million on Rep. Jeff Flake as his Senate race against Democrat Richard Carmona gets  uncomfortably close, according to recent polls.

Politico reported late Tuesday the money has been used to purchase airtime for commercials for the remaining two weeks of the election.

According to TV3 in Phoenix, the latest NRSC contribution brings Flake's total from outside group contributions to $7.8 million in his bid to move from the House to the Senate. Carmona, the former surgeon general under President George W. Bush, has gotten plenty of help as well from outside groups that pumped about $3.5 million into his campaign.

The race is extremely important to Republicans because a Carmona win would be a major blow to their efforts to take control of the Senate.
