Fergie, singer for the popular band the Black Eyed Peas, has filed in Los Angeles Superior Court to legally change her name to – Fergie.
Fergie said name change came because she has not been called Stacy Ann Ferguson, her birth name, in years, according to TMZ.com
. The singer said the change to Fergie Duhamel would conform her new real name to what she is known as professionally, said the website.
TMZ.com said one of the tasks Fergie has to complete is publishing a notice in a local newspaper for four weeks. A hearing will be held Aug. 16 where a judge will make a final ruling, according to TMZ.com.

Seeing this is the same court that allowed NBA star Ron Artest to change his name to Metta World Peace, Fergie may have little to worry about beyond the newspaper publication. Peace made his name change in 2011, TMZ.com reported.
The New York Daily News
reported that Fergie will be giving birth to her first child with Duhamel later this year.
"I plan on taking as much time as I can just before and as much time as possible after," Dumahel told ET Canada recently. "I can't imagine having a kid and then not being able to be there. That would just drive me crazy. My head would be at home with mom and baby. (If) I am working, they can come with me, or if she is working, I can go with them. I can't see myself ever wanting to be away from my wife and kid."
Fergie told US Weekly in April that she feels Dumahel will be the ideal father and couple is looking forward to the birth.

"He's been amazing," Fergie told US Weekly. "He's so nice and wonderful and he sings and talks to my belly all the time. He's very complimentary. I'm very lucky that he is really good to me. He's going to be an amazing father," she added. "He's just got natural parenting instincts and he wanted to knock me up from our first date! He is ready!"
