Singer-songwriter Erykah Badu will be the face of Givenchy’s latest ad campaign.
Riccardo Tisci is known for casting unique, stylish women in the company’s glamorous campaigns, and he told Style that Badu is a perfect fit for his Spring 2014 collection.

“Erykah, she’s an icon — come on!” Tisci told Style.
“What I want to do with my advertising campaign is spread the love. Already now it’s been three seasons that I’ve been using people that express something — they are great artists, or beautiful women, or stylish women, or models that I really believe in. It’s kind of a family portfolio.”
Badu fits into the newest collection with its collaboration of African and Japanese styles, Tisci told Style. “She’s one of the most stylish women I’ve met in my life,” he said. “She’s got such a good sense of proportion, of colors.”
The entire campaign will feature what Style calls women of color, from model Maria Borges to Asia Chow to Riley. The idea of a runway that isn’t homogeneous has received a lot of media attention this year. The New York Times tackled the issue of mostly white models and a fashion industry geared toward Caucasians.
Tisci pointed out to Style that lack of diversity has never been an issue of his.
“Me, I was one of the persons who ended up not being touched by this,” he said. “I discovered Joan Smalls, I discovered Maria [Borges]. I discovered a lot of black girls, and I’ve been always supporting them. For me, I grew up in a family and I grew up in a culture, an education, that we all are the same.”
As news of Style’s exclusive about Badu and Givenchy spread, the Internet jumped on the glittering fashion bandwagon to point out Badu’s amazing style. Global Grind offered style proof,
including her ability to balance an intricate and tall head wrap while in heels.
