Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, announced new company food policies, which correspond with first lady Michelle Obama’s public cause.

Disney, the parent company of ABC, will be revising menus at its theme parks and resorts, and will also be curbing the advertising of junk food on its television and radio programs aimed at children.

“With this new initiative, Disney is doing what no major media company has ever done before in the U.S. — and what I hope every company will do going forward,” Obama said in a statement.

Iger is a longtime supporter and donor for Democratic candidates, having made, among other contributions, a $35,800 donation to the Obama Victory Fund 2012, according to Federal Election Commission records.

In October 2011 the New York Post reported that, according to Iger’s friends and associates, the Disney CEO’s “next act may include public service. There is speculation that he could run for governor of California, mayor of Los Angeles or even mayor of New York.”

This is not the first time that Michelle Obama has partnered up with Disney. In February 2012 at Disney World, she hosted athletic and dance games for children at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex.

The new Disney junk food ban is a significant part of the first lady’s nutrition and exercise agenda. Her “Let’s Move” campaign has urged schools to alter their menus and fitness programs.
