It looks like Derek Jeter will be the new owner of the Miami Marlins.

Multiple outlets reported Friday that the former New York Yankees star, along with businessman Bruce Sherman, was awarded the $1.2 billion deal after months of talks that formerly included Jeb Bush.

According to the Miami Herald, Sherman "will be the 'control person,' similar to a managing general partner" while Jeter heads up the baseball and business parts. There are approximately 16 investors in the group buying the MLB team, including NBA star and Jeter friend Michael Jordan.

Current Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has reportedly agreed to the deal but it still has to be approved by MLB owners, who will meet in Chicago next week but aren't likely to vote on the sale yet.

Jeter is investing $25 million of his own money to aquire the team, the Miami Herald reported.

Marlins coach Don Mattingly said in April he was sure Jeter would be fine as an owner since he "seems to be good at everything he tries to do," but added that it didn't really change things for the team as far as preparing to play.
