Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger Served at Fat-Loving Philly Eatery

By Alexandra Ward   |

From the Philly eatery that previously featured lasagna burgers, mini-Krispy Kreme sandwiches, and chocolate covered bacon comes the newest culinary creation: the deep-fried Twinkie burger.

The gut-busting invention was unveiled on Facebook earlier this week with the message, "We are really sorry about this, but someone had to do it."

"Someone brought in Twinkies and the owner said let's deep fry these," manager Malcolm Kenyatta told Fox News of how the burger came to be.

Free to the first 15 customers on Tuesday, the deep-fried Twinkie burger features a mixture of beef and pork belly, crispy bacon, and two fried creme-filled Twinkie buns.

"Flavor appeal comes from the combination of savory and sweet in the same bite," PYT bar manager Kevin McGehrin told ABC News. "Sweetness comes from the Twinkie, of course. And by using the pork belly in the blend it really amps up the savory aspect of the patty. The applewood bacon gives it a bit of a smoky component. The bun texture is a crunchy exterior with a soft warm fluffy cake-like center."

When asked how many calories are in the deep-fried Twinkie burger, Kenyatta simple said, "At PYT, we don't want to have those conversations. This is an escape."

"Obviously eating a burger like the Twinkie burger is not going to be recommended by your doctor," McGehrin said. "We just try to come up with fun ideas that give people something to reward themselves with."

Twitter users seemed both excited and disgusted at the prospect of downing the heart-stopping monstrosity.
