The banana-thrower who hurled the fruit at FC Barcelona defender Dani Alves during Sunday's matchup against Atletico Madrid has been arrested.
David Campayo Lleo, 26, was arrested Tuesday and charged with a "breach of fundamental rights and civil liberties" for the racially charged insult, The Associated Press reported
. He faces up to three years in prison if found guilty, and has also been dismissed from his position as a youth soccer coach.

"We have suffered this in Spain for some time," Alves told reporters after his team's 3-2 win over Madrid. "You have to take it with a dose of humor. We aren't going to change things easily. If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective."
Video of Alves picking up the banana and taking a bite went viral
online this week, spurring a Twitter campaign meant as a showing of solidarity.
