The Family Research Council and the Heritage Foundation have launched a joint voter education and registration initiative aimed at acquainting Americans with what they say are “practical, conservative solutions to the most critical issues confronting the nation.”
The initiative sponsored by the two conservative public policy groups, which kicks off Thursday with a “Values Voter Bus Tour” in the key primary state of South Carolina, will focus on federal spending and the economy, as well as other issues considered critical to conservatives.
“This tour will speak to the views held by millions of American voters who want to see the next president address the values issues, which include restoring fiscal sanity, protecting marriage, safeguarding religious liberty, and protecting the rights of the unborn,” Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said in announcing the effort.
In addition to South Carolina, the bus tour is scheduled to stop in Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C., over the next month before rolling on to other states before the Nov. 6 general election.
In addition to Perkins and Heritage President Ed Feulner, South Carolina GOP Gov. Nikki Haley is slated to speak when the bus pulls into to the College of Charleston on Thursday.
Haley has endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination, but the values bus tour is not supporting one GOP candidate over another. It is aimed, however, at making sure that President Barack Obama is not re-elected.
