"Saturday Night Live" head writer Colin Jost will slip behind the anchor desk beside Cecily Strong on the show’s Weekend Update segments, taking over for Seth Meyers who is leaving to host "Late Night."

Jost has been writing for the show since 2005 and became head writer in 2012. A Harvard University graduate and president of the “Harvard Lampoon,” Jost has built his comedic career and earned three WGA Awards, a Peabody, and was nominated for seven Emmys.

Meyers' final episode will be Feb. 1. Jimmy Fallon, the current host of "Late Night" and an "SNL" alum, will be taking the reins from Jay Leno at "The Tonight Show."

A former SNL writer congratulated the up-and-coming Jost:

Along with his regular "SNL" work, Jost has co-written and will be in a movie coming out this summer, “Staten Island Summer,” about two high school grads who spend their summer lifeguarding while trying to figure out their next big life move.

BuzzFeed called Jost “the perfect replacement” for Meyers, going on to offer up a sampling of Jost’s tweeted jokes.
