Christie Says Romney Can Still Win

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie still thinks Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney can win the White House, even though he had a tough time last week on the campaign trail.
"I think all of us sitting around have had a bad week," the Republican governor said, adding, "Do we want our entire career judged on one week? I don’t think so."
According to the Asbury Park Press, the governor, who made the comments at ceremonial groundbreaking for a new school, was referring to Romney’s "47 percent" remark that was captured on tape at a May fundraiser and leaked last week to reporters.
The governor acknowledged the Romney comment essentially writing off what he called the 47 percent of voters “dependent on government” who will vote for President Barack Obama was controversial. But he noted that Obama has also made some questionable comments.
“The president said one of the … stupidest things that I’ve ever heard a president say — that you can’t change Washington from the inside," Christie told reporters. "If you can’t change Washington from inside 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., then why are you asking for another four years?"
Christie said a lot can happen in the few weeks left before Election Day Nov. 6, noting that Ronald Reagan trailed Jimmy Carter in the polls shortly before winning the 1980 election.
Christie used his appearance at the school ceremony to also push his call for tax cuts, which he described as an urgency in helping to get the state economy back on its feet.
“If we want to get the economy moving in New Jersey, we’ve got to be more competitive with our neighboring states — and we have the highest tax rates in the region,” he said.
