The pair have been together since 2011, though rumors of a breakup dogged the two last fall. Several media outlets reported in October that the couple broke up, with the split stemming from a photo Wozniacki posted of McIlroy on Twitter the previous month showing her beau sleeping in an unflattering position with his shirt off and his mouth agape while slouched over a pillow.
McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, was once ranked No. 1 in the world and won the 2011 U.S. Open and the 2012 PGA Championship. Many call him the most exciting young prospect in golf.
Wozniacki is a former No. 1 ranked tennis player who has won 21 WTA singles titles and came in second at the 2009 U.S. Open while reaching the semifinal round the following two years.
Both had off years in 2013, though McIlroy, 24, finished by beating Adam Scott by one stroke to win the Australian Open on Dec. 1. He led the PGA in earnings in 2012. Wozniacki failed to get past the fourth round in any major last year and just a few days ago withdrew from the Brisbane International tournament because of a shoulder injury.
The Daily Mail reported that the couple appear to be happily in love
, writing that the “lovebirds ... don’t want to stray from each others sides, as the golfer was spotted dotingly watching his new fiancee from the sidelines during her training in Australia.”
The Irish Mirror reported that bookies are betting the pair
will wait until 2015 before tying the knot, with Denmark the favorite to be the wedding venue, followed by Ireland at 2-to-1. “Paddy Power also offered 7/4 odds that Rory’s ex-girlfriend Holly Sweeney will attend the nuptials.”
