GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain, fresh off a straw-poll victory in Florida, said on “Fox News Sunday” his victory means “message is more powerful than money.”
“It shows that the voice of the people is much more powerful than the voice of the media,” Cain said, adding that “our fundraising has picked up substantially as a result of what happened in Florida.”
When host Chris Wallace asked Cain how much will be reported in his coffers for the third quarter, Cain responded, “north of $2 million.”
Cain also talked about his unconventional “999 Plan” to address taxes and said a family of four making $50,000 a year will pay $2,000 less than they are now.
The objective was, broaden the base and make the whole tax code fairer for everybody,” Cain said. “It gets the government out of the business of trying to pick winners and losers and trying to decide what’s regressive and what’s not regressive.”
Cain said part of the “999 Plan” legislation will be a requirement that two-thirds of the Senate must vote to raise the tax percentages.
“That will impede cavalierly raising it,” he said.
Cain defended his comment that many African-American voters are “brainwashed” into believing they can’t vote for him because he’s too conservative.
“It’s their only weapon, Chris, to try and silence me because I'm a conservative,” he said. “It’s simply not going to work. Some black people that I run into...they won't even take my little 999 brochure because I’m that conservative, I’m that Republican. I call that being brainwashed.”
