A woman who allegedly sprayed gasoline on a man sitting on a Kansas City Metro bus, hitting other passengers seated nearby, was arrested Monday, the Kansas City Star reported.

Apparently upset with the man, the suspect, Ebony D. Williams, reportedly grabbed a water bottle filled with gasoline from her purse, sprayed him and others, and threatened to light a match.

The KC Star interviewed Randy Harris, a passenger who was hit with gasoline, who said the woman was mad because the man sat beside her. She apparently told him to move, Harris told the Star, but he wouldn’t. The bus was full.

Harris also told the newspaper that the woman pulled out matches and tried to light one. The bus driver pulled the bus over and passengers rushed to get out, knocking the matches out of the woman’s hands, Harris told the Star. He also said the woman waved a steak knife around.

A spokeswoman for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, Cindy Baker, confirmed to the Star reporter that the woman pulled out a match. Initially, Kansas City police said they didn’t know about the match and had no indication the woman may have tried to light the gasoline.

The incident, which happened about 5:30 a.m., ended with Williams’ arrest after some of the bus passengers tackled her. The woman said she had stomach pains and was taken to the hospital. She was booked on six assault counts.

In 2012, another Kansas City bus assault made the news, this time when a bus driver was punched in the face by a teenager who was with a group that didn’t have the money for bus fare.
