Britney Spears is "in love" with boyfriend David Lucado, the pop princess revealed this week, but that didn't stop her dad from running a background check on the Virginia native when the two started dating back in February.

Spears, 31, reportedly met Lucado, a law firm staffer, through mutual friends, and they were first spotted together on Valentine's Day, just a month after Spears called off her engagement to former agent Jason Trawick.

Since then, the pair has been photographed cozying up on the sidelines at Spears' son's soccer games and running errands around Los Angeles.

"I'm in love... I like the fact that [Lucado is] very stubborn and he's stuck in his ways," Spears told Entertainment Tonight. "He's just a simple man. I adore him. He's really funny and he's really passionate. I love the fact that anything he's involved in he's passionate about and it's contagious."

The pop star also confessed that her dad, Jamie, ran a background check on Lucado when they first started dating (Jamie Spears was appointed conservator of his daughter's affairs following her 2008 breakdown).

"My dad's a little crazy like that," Spears said.

The "Work B—" singer also opened up about her eighth studio album, "Britney Jean," which drops Dec. 3.

"I would say [the album] was kind of like therapy for me," she said. "It just kind of transformed me. As you write something your perspective changes. So, it was like my 'good therapy record.' I'm an artist so I think there are periods in everyone's life where you get kind of reclusive, your creative outlet is cut off. Then sometimes it flows and you're like, 'Oh my God, this is what I need to be doing' [which makes] it easier for you to be the artist that you want to be."
