A Pennsylvania wedding turned into a tragic affair when the bride fatally shot her niece during a wedding party argument, police told The Associated Press.

Christina George-Harvan, 30, used her husband's handgun to kill Katelyn "Kaytee" Francis, 21, on Thursday night, police said.

The incident happened outside Jimmy K's Bar & Grille in New Brighton, Pa., about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh.

When police arrived, Francis was on the ground in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to her stomach, the AP reported. She later died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

George-Harvan and her new husband, Jeremy Harvan, were married earlier that day and were reportedly partying with friends and family.

Police say the argument was about who would drive, because of the groom's intoxicated state.

George-Harvan was charged with criminal homicide, recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of aggravated assault, according to Pittsburgh's Action 4 News.

"We believe all three were arguing over who was going to be the designated driver," said New Brighton Police Chief Charles Van Fossan, Action 4 reported.

"It's a shame it happened, but I believe alcohol was a major factor in this," Fossan added.
