Boston 'Looting' After Bombing Caught on Video, Debated on Twitter (Video)

Video footage purportedly shot moments after the two blasts rocked the Boston Marathon Monday show looters rifling through boxes of official event jackets and walking away with them, but it may not be what it looks like.

A YouTube video posted Monday (below) described the clip as "people stealing marathon jackets after the bombings, while they were still searching for bombs and kids and innocents were dying and/or losing limbs."

Commenters on YouTube and Twitter bashed the accused looters.

"Every time there is some disaster in America, we see the society's true colors," one user posted.

"Filthy scum to go around looting when children are dying and people are missing limbs," another said.

Others tried to come up with a plausible explanation for the people's actions.

"Entirely possible that some of them were doing this for a legitimate reason," one person wrote. "Namely, a runner was at the finish line but didn't have access to their belongings due to the bombing and were left in the cold."

And that's actually what happened, says one YouTube user who claims he was there at the time. A majority of the people taking the jackets weren’t looting, but instead disbursing the jackets "to comfort the injured or those who could not go back to the hotel."

"Yes, some people took advantage of it, what can you do," user Sim Salabim wrote, "but it's not looting what you see."
