Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who’s being widely touted as the best chance for Democrats to beat Republican Gov. Chris Christie next year, says Hurricane Sandy has put his decision about whether to run on hold for the moment.
But Booker said on his monthly radio program Thursday he believes he owes it to state Democrats to make a decision quickly, reports the Newark Star-Ledger
"The reality is Sandy has pushed my timeline back," he said on WGBO.
Sources told the Star-Ledger last week Booker plans to decide by mid-December, so other potential Democratic candidates will have an opportunity to mount campaigns.
The mayor said he’s had several phone calls over the past few days with state Democratic leaders, and he’ll be discussing a possible run with family and advisors over the next few weeks. He also left open other possibilities, including running for a third term as mayor of Newark.
He could also run for U.S. Senate in 2014, the same year he’s be up for re-election as mayor.
