TV megahit The Big Bang Theory will get even nerdier when it teams up with Lucasfilm for a special "Star Wars" episode timed to release in conjunction with Star Wars Day.
According to The Hollywood Reporter
, "The Proton Transmogrification" will also feature a guest appearance by Bob Newhart, who will return to his Emmy-winning role as Sheldon's reluctant mentor, Professor Proton. The Professor will appear to Sheldon (Jim Parsons) as his own personal Jedi master.
"We knew that Bob was coming back and Lucasfilm called us, and we realized that this might be an opportunity to mix both stories and come up with something special," said show runner Steve Molaro.

The show's co-creator Chuck Lorre – who also created "Two and a Half Men," "Mike & Molly," and "Mom" – said it was particularly fun that Lucasfilm wanted them to celebrate Star Wars Day.
The new episode will air May 1, just days before the internationally-celebrated Star Wars Day on May 4 – chosen by fans for its pun: "May the fourth be with you."
The show is no stranger to Star Wars, which is frequently referenced in jokes and plotlines. Actors Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones of Star Wars fame have also made appearances on the sitcom.
Molaro said that Lucasfilm will help with producing the episode, particularly the special effects. "They're excited about everything we're doing, and they're going to help us with the special effects. Bob is going to be swinging a light saber around and they sent us a real one to use. They're going to help make it look and sound right. It's an amazing crossover for us."
Eddie Pasquarello of Lucasfilm's visual effects department said that in addition to light sabers they might try to recreate Dagobah, the swampy planet seen in the original trilogy.
