Joy Behar will host a primetime talk show on Al Gore’s Current TV only six months after her Time Warner cable channel HLN program was canceled.
Current TV announced Monday that Behar’s new program will begin September 2012.
Behar, who is also a co-host on ABC’s “The View,” anchored a nightly program on HLN from which she exited in December 2011.
The comic host will perform substitute duties next week for the vacationing former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.
Spitzer had taken the place of former Current host Keith Olbermann, who came over to the network after losing his spot on MSNBC.
Behar is the third host that Current, which was co-founded by Al Gore, has added to its lineup since the network parted ways with Olbermann in March 2012.
Current’s programming slate features a schedule that is populated by decidedly left-leaning hosts, including Spitzer, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, and California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The network has become the residual landing spot for hosts who lose their cable news networks shows, other than the Fox News Channel.
Behar’s new program will air Monday through Thursday at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
