Rep. Michele Bachmann shook up her campaign staff Monday, sending one of her most senior advisers back to an advisory role and accepting the resignation of his deputy.

Campaign manager Ed Rollins is stepping back into an advisory role, citing health concerns.

Rollins, who said that the contest has become, in effect, "a Romney-Perry race," added, "I have great affection for her. I'll do everything I can to help her."

Rollins's deputy, David Polyansky, also is leaving the campaign.

"I wish Michele nothing but the best, and anyone who underestimates her as a candidate does so at their own peril," Polyansky told Politico.

Polyansky had "strategic differences on the path forward" with the candidate, who has fallen behind in recent weeks after Texas Gov. Rick Perry got in the race, Politico wrote, quoting a GOP source.

Polyansky and Rollins led the team that brought Bachmann to her Ames Straw Poll win in Iowa, along with a handful of others like veteran pollster Ed Goeas. It wasn't immediately clear who was taking over the top two day-to-day slots.
