Former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination, calling him the "last chance we have to keep America from going over a cliff," Yahoo News reports.

Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman who dropped out of the presidential race on Jan. 4 after finishing sixth in the Iowa caucuses, delivered the endorsement as Romney campaigns in Virginia.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, is his party’s presumptive nominee with only Representative Ron Paul of Texas left in the race. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich exited the race today.

Bachmann, a tea party favorite, had been holding off on a formal endorsement because she wanted to unifiy conservatives, tea party supporter, and evangelicals.
