An infant narrowly survived being thrown from an SUV onto an icy Russian highway, escaping with just scrapes and bruises after an oncoming truck barely dodged the 1-year-old girl.

A dashboard camera in the vehicle behind the SUV captured the incident in Central Russia on Monday.

In the video clip, the Mitsubishi attempts to pass the driver with the dash cam, goes out of control, and crashes into traffic on the opposite side of the road. The baby is ejected from the back-seat window of the smashed SUV and lands in the path of oncoming traffic. Seconds after she lands on the roadway, a multi-ton 18-wheeler swerves and misses her by inches.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for lacerations to the lips and suspected head trauma.

Investigators said the infant was not properly secured in the vehicle and instead simply was prone across the car's back seat, "like a doll on the back shelf of the car," according to a Russian news agency.

The SUV's illegal maneuver was prohibited by a double white line in the middle of the roadway, as well as from signs along the shoulder.

Reports did not name the driver of the SUV or specify whether any charges were filed, but regional police said the child was taken from the parents due to neglect and out of common sense.

"It should be noted that the alleged culprit is a driver [of a] trolleybus," a commuter vehicle, and had 15 years of driving experience, according to a report from the General Directorate of Road Traffic of the Russian State Inspection for Security.
