The Houston Astros' attempt to plan a fun Ladies' Night event this week turned into a disaster after the promotion's online advertising led to cries of sexism from many female fans.
It started Monday when the Astros tweeted about its Ladies' Night plans where women "can learn about baseball."
"Astros Ladies Night is a women-only event that allows our female fans to get the inside scoop on the Astros
and meet some of the staff and players," read a description on the team's website. "The event starts at 4 p.m. with a 'Baseball 101' talk, followed by a happy hour event themed 'Diamond, Bling, and Glittery Things' with music, specialty drinks, exclusive Ladies Night gift courtesy of State Farm, group photos with Astros players, and complimentary beauty treatments."

Though the promotion was no doubt created with good intentions, the Astros' female fan base felt it implied that women don't know anything about baseball.
After the Twitter backlash, the team issued an apology.
"The Astros apologize to those that have been offended," a statement read. "Our intent is to have a unique and fun event similar to what many other sports teams host."
