Army wife Misty Shaffer lost 150 pounds during her husband's one-year deployment to Afghanistan.
The homecoming surprise was revealed to Army Spc. Larry Shaffer at his hometown airport in Wilmington, North Carolina last Wednesday.
"Wow," Shaffer said upon seeing his wife
, local NBC affiliate WECT reported. "This is icing on the cake because I've been happy with the way she's looked since day one but it's something she wanted to do and she reached her goal."

At the time Shaffer left for Afghanistan early last year, Misty weighed more than 300 pounds.
Over the past 12 months, Misty concealed her dramatic weight-loss from her husband, keeping all mention of it off social media sites and only sharing photos that did not reveal her body.
"I just kept pictures off Facebook, off the internet," Misty told WECT. "When I did send him pictures, they were from the shoulder up."
In addition to the massive weight-loss, Misty also revealed another surprise to the returning war hero: a new house.
"He's been wanting to buy a house now forever and I went and did it while he was gone," Misty added.
Shaffer was also greeted by his 3-year-old daughter, whom apparently grew significantly over the past year.

"Everything’s new," Shaffer said to reporters who filmed the long-awaited reunion at the airport. "I pretty much have a new wife. My daughter’s three times the size she was and we have our own home now."
It is unclear how long Shaffer will remain stateside, considering he is starting a new tour of duty, WECT reports.
