The anti-Semitic Elmo
who stopped traffic and offended passersby in Times Square last November was sentenced on Wednesday to one year in Rikers for attempting to extort $2 million from the Girl Scouts.
Dan Sandler, 49, acknowledged that he had broken the law, pleading guilty to reduced charges of second-degree attempted grand larceny and third-degree stalking. The anti-Semitic Elmo however told the judge his actions were justified.
"This was not a case of someone in the back room or front office trying to embezzle. This was more of a protest, like lying in an intersection," Sander told Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Robert Stoltz, the New York Daily News reported

"I am not in any way sorry to the Girl Scouts organization because I believe they are a very corrupt organization because of their relationship to the pharmaceutical industry," Sandler added.
Prior to his arrest, Sandler alleged the Girl Scouts had marketed pharmaceutical products to children for uses other than their approved purpose.
When asked about her client's claims outside the courthouse, Sandler's attorney, Lori Cohen, shrugged it off with a roll of her eyes, the New York Daily News noted.
Having worked as a temp for the nonprofit, Sandler began sending and leaving harassing emails and voice mails in 2012 for a Girl Scouts supervisor he had met during his time there, according to prosecutors.
When told to stop contacting the organization, Sandler threatened to spread false rumors about sex abuse in the organization unless it gave him a high-paying position or made him a millionaire.
"I want a telecommute job from home of life at 150K," prosecutors say he wrote in one of several rambling emails. "Or a two million dollar cash settlement. As you know, the newspapers like to cover my evil Elmo scenario."
Sandler also cautioned, "How you treat me as a person will go a long way in regards to how I treat the Girl Scouts in the press, on the Internet and on u-tube," authorities said.
In another email, Sandler reportedly attached a photo of an Elmo costume stuffed in the trunk of a car, titled "Interstate Kidnapping of Elmo."
In September 2012, Sandler was arrested in Times Square where he spewing anti-Semitic rants while dressed as the "Sesame Street" character, telling passersby, "The Jews are responsible for everything that's wrong with the world! I hate the Jews!"
Sandler was subsequently sentenced to two days of community service after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct.
Following the racist rant in Times Square, Sandler relocated to San Francisco, where he was arrested in May by police acting on the extortion warrant from New York. At the time he was reportedly living out of a car.
