Stars are flocking to Twitter to show support for Angelina Jolie after the actress revealed Tuesday that she recently underwent a preventative double mastectomy.
Jolie, 37, detailed her experience in a New York Times op-ed,
saying she decided to have the procedure after learning she was at an 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer
because of a "faulty" gene. After seeing her mother die at age 56 of ovarian cancer, Jolie, a mother of six, decided not to take the chance.

"Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could," she wrote. "I choose not to keep my story private because there are many women who do not know that they might be living under the shadow of cancer. It is my hope that they, too, will be able to get gene tested, and that if they have a high risk they, too, will know that they have strong options."
Other celebrities took to Twitter to applaud Jolie for her bravery.
Among the tweets includes E! television host Giuliana Rancic, 38, who underwent a double mastectomy in December 2012 after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2011.
CNN anchor Zoraida Sambolin said Tuesday afternoon that she had breast cancer and was getting a double mastectomy
at the end of May, following Jolie's announcement.
