Andrew McCutchen, the MLB's newly crowned National League Most Valuable Player, surprised everyone Wednesday when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend on Ellen DeGeneres' daytime talk show.
McCutchen, the 27-year-old center fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, popped the question to Maria Hanslovan, his girlfriend of four years, but before getting down on one knee, he chronicled their relationship with help from a prerecorded video.

"I always envisioned that I would be on the highest mountain in the world and that my voice would be as loud as a lion’s roar — times a billion — so the whole world could hear me, just to tell you how much that I love you," McCutchen said in the clip. "I didn't do any of this for the publicity. I didn't do any of this for the recognition. I did this to show you that if I could tell the whole world how much I love you, I would do that."
Hanslovan said yes and DeGeneres then presented the happy couple with some items to wear on their wedding day — a top hat for McCutchen with the Pirates' gold "P" on the front and "Mr. 22" on the back, and a "P" veil for Hanslovan.
McCutchen is a three-time All-Star who made his debut with the Pirates in 2009.
