All-Star Baseball: Matt Harvey, Starting NL Pitcher, Pranks NYers (Video)

By Morgan Chilson   |   Tuesday, 16 Jul 2013 03:03 PM

Major League Baseball's All-Star Game is Tuesday night at Citi Field. New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey will start the game for the National League, and while he may be recognizable in his No. 33 jersey and hat on the pitcher’s mound, New Yorkers failed to identify him when Jimmy Fallon sent Harvey out to do “man-on-the-street” interviews.

On "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," the host sent Harvey out to ask Big Apple residents what they think of, well, Matt Harvey. The results were hilarious.

It may not be surprising that Harvey’s face doesn’t instantly make people point and ask for autographs. Yahoo! Sports said the pitcher took “Queens by storm in his first full season” and then gathered a few more fans when he posed almost nude in ESPN: The Magazine’s Body Issue.

Harvey took a good attitude and a microphone to the city streets, grinning as people critiqued his pitching performance and failed to figure out who was interviewing them. One man even talked about how much his wife liked the nude photo session, though to his credit, he was one of the few to figure out toward the end of the interview exactly what was going on.

One guy even asks, “Who is Matt Harvey?”

So a few New Yorkers can’t put a face to the pitcher, but many are still glad for the skill Harvey brought to the team.

The New York Daily News highlighted the “star power” Harvey exudes, quoting Mets manager Terry Collins: “This is no exhibition game for Matt Harvey, I’ll tell you that. He’s bound and determined to show a national audience that he’s legit.”

The Daily News said Harvey will probably pitch only two innings, but those two innings should be something to watch. Young pitcher Harvey brings theater and intensity to the game, the newspaper said.
