Neketa Shepherd, the victim's sister, said Briskey got angry when her sister joked about the last-second loss and because she didn’t seem to be upset over the Alabama defeat, the AP reported.
Police have not corroborated that information and are still investigating if the shooting is tied to the game.
The women were attending a party after the game when they allegedly got into a confrontation.
“She said we weren’t real Alabama fans because it didn’t bother us that they lost. And then she started shooting,” Neketa Shepherd told the AP.
The shooting occurred in an apartment complex parking lot in Hoover, Ala. Michelle Shepherd had three children. Neketa Shepherd told Alabama.com her sister had gunshot wounds in her chest,
stomach, and side.
"My sister took her last breath in my arms,'' she said. "I heard her take her last breath and I knew she was gone."
Neketa Shepherd told Alabama.com that police are reporting that the fight started inside and then moved to the parking lot, but that is not how it happened. Instead, she said Briskey started cussing at them inside until friends took her outside. Then when Neketa and Michelle Shepherd decided to leave later, Briskey was still in the parking lot and pulled a gun, she said.
“She just started shooting. I heard five shots,” Neketa Shepherd told Alabama.com. “She was like 10 feet away. My sister never touched her, and she never touched my sister. They never had words.”
