Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s Facebook page has been inundated with an estimated 4,000 “inappropriate comments,” following the Obama administration’s decision to stop providing funding for a women’s health program because the state has decided to withhold funds to clinics that provide abortions.

“There is no place for such inappropriate comments which do nothing to advance the important discussion about issues surrounding the [Texas] Women’s Health Program,” said Catherine Frazier, the governor’s spokeswoman, the Houston Chronicle Texas Politics blog reported Tuesday.

The comments — which mockingly sought the governor’s advice on everything from women’s hygiene products to contraception — were posted in response to last week’s announcement that Texas would stop directing taxpayer money it gets from the federal government for the program to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

“It’s clear many of these individuals are basing their remarks on something other than the facts,” Frazier said. “Gov. Perry is proud of his efforts to keep this program going and will continue to fight for our state’s fair share of the federal tax dollars that have funded WHP.”

To punish Texas for attempting to de-fund Planned Parenthood, the Obama administration stopped all taxpayer subsidies to the Texas Women’s Health Program. The state immediately took the U.S. Department of Health and Social Services to federal court to restore the funding.
