Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is weighing a run to become Florida’s next governor, the state’s biggest newspaper claimed Friday.

The congresswoman, a lightning-rod for criticism from conservative Republicans, is considering taking on the GOP’s incumbent Rick Scott in 2014, says the Tampa Bay Times.

“The 45-year-old Broward County Democrat can raise tons of money given her national network,” says an article in the paper’s Buzz section.” A scrappy mother and breast cancer survivor, she also has personal appeal and charm that can transcend her partisan image.

“And Gov. Rick Scott, despite his vast resources to mount a strong campaign, has a serious image problem that simply doesn't seem to be going away. If Wasserman Schultz has any interest in the job, 2014 against Scott could be her last best shot.”

The paper though says Wasserman Schultz still has to be persuaded to go for the job and might be more interested in replacing Rep. Nancy Pelosi as leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives.
