Mitt Romney wants to be Rick Santorum, according to “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart.

During Stewart’s roundup of the Iowa caucuses, in which Romney squeaked by Santorum to win by eight votes, comedian/political satirist Stewart made this observation: Former Massachusetts Gov. Romney wants America to think he is just an ordinary guy, like former Pennsylvania Sen. Santorum.

However, Stewart said, Romney keeps falling short.

“See here’s Mitt Romney’s problem. Even in victory, his self-described committed-conservative-ordinary guy persona feels like it came from a committed-conservative-ordinary guy kit that he got from Hammacher Schlemmer for $14 million,” Stewart said during his show on Wednesday.

Stewart said that’s the conclusion he reached after playing both candidates’ speeches after the results from the caucuses Tuesday were final early Wednesday morning.

“Oh my God, I just realized something terrible for Mitt Romney. Rick Santorum is the actual guy Romney is pretending to be. And you know what, kudos to Santorum. He worked hard and he earned this.”

Another thing Santorum earned: He raised more than $1 million the day after the caucuses.
