It’s not just Republicans who are complaining about President Barack Obama’s lack of action in attacking unemployment, which registered 9.1 percent last month. Now senior Senate Democrats are critical too, The Hill reports.

senate obama jobsThey are mulling a large infrastructure package and tax increases to pay for it. The senators, including Iowa’s Tom Harkin, chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, say that kind of plan could trim the jobless rate by up to two percentage points.

“I am concerned about the Obama administration’s approach on this,” Harkin said. “It always has been about jobs. I think the administration kind of got snookered talking about the deficit and the debt after the last election.”

To be sure, Obama may have good reason to shy away from that kind of jobs package. It would almost certainly be dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled House.
