Newly elected New York Rep. Bob Turner gave conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh a television show in 1992, Limbaugh revealed on his program Wednesday.
“You talk about having an itch and being unable to scratch it — but today, I can,” he said.
Turner headed Multimedia Entertainment and launched — in addition to Limbaugh’s — shows from Jerry Springer, Sally Jesse Raphael, and Phil Donahue.
“All during this race, I kept waiting for Democratic-opposition research to blow this up and try to defame Turner,” he said. “There’s a lesson here.”
The lesson: Turner’s affiliation with controversial conservative characters wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the election in an urban district that hasn’t seen a Republican in office in nearly a century.
“We all fall prey to the caricatures that the left makes of all of us,” Limbaugh said. “It was not going to work, no matter what they tried, because this was about Obama.”
Turner handily defeated Democrat David Weprin in the special election for disgraced Rep.Anthony Weiner’s New York 9th Congressional District seat. Weiner resigned following a “sexting” scandal.
“They are shocked to the core at AP,” Limbaugh said. “They are shocked to the core at Politico. It’s another bitch slap.”
The House seat is the latest in a string of Republican gains that include Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia.
“There is a trend,” he said. “Conservatism is in the ascendency, and it is being aided immensely by Obama, and the Democrats all know this.”
