President Barack Obama has morphed into a typical Washington politician who has lost touch with the American people, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Rubio turned multiple talking points raised by host Chris Wallace during the 20-plus-minute interview into a verbal crusade against  the man whose re-election campaign kicked off during the weekend.

“This campaign is very simple,” Rubio said. “It’s not a difficult one to understand. This president asked us to hire him four years ago on the promise that he knew how to fix this economy. That’s the standard we should judge him by. The economy’s worse off, the debt is $5 trillion higher, and he’s become increasingly divisive. All the things that made him different and special four years ago are gone.”

Rubio said the most recent jobs report is “abysmal,” the government’s policies are crushing small-business owners, and “things keep getting worse under his watch.”

“If you’re a small-business person, you’re afraid to hire employees because you have no idea how much it’s going to cost you to comply with the healthcare law,” Rubio said.

He also criticized Obama’s response to the diplomatic crisis in China over blind dissident Chen Guangcheng.

“There’s this propensity that this administration seems to have of an unwillingness to forcefully assert America’s values,” Rubio said. “Somehow, this administration looked almost reluctant to forcefully assert the U.S. defense of human rights.”

When asked by Wallace about his potential nomination as Mitt Romney’s running mate, Rubio refused to talk about it.

“I’m not going to talk about the vice-presidential process,” he said.
