Roman Catholic leaders are searching for a second miracle so they can elevate the previous pope, John Paul II, to sainthood. They say they have confirmed one miracle attributed to John Paul II, but canonization requires a second, reports the Daily Telegraph in London.

Pope John Paul II, beatified, saintJohn Paul, who died in 2005, is to be beatified on Sunday. That is the first step on the road to sainthood and requires only one verified miracle. The healing of a French nun with Parkinson’s disease has passed that test, the Vatican says.

Now dozens of stories of sudden recoveries from devastating illness, saved lives, and even reunions with long-lost relatives have been posted on the Vatican website by people who claim any one of them could be the required second miracle.

Many say that the Pope appeared to them in dreams during high-risk surgery or serious accidents, helping them to survive.

Up to a million people are expected in Rome on Sunday when Pope Benedict XVI will preside at the beatification ceremony.
