Poll: Pawlenty Trails in GOP Name Recognition

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who this week announced that he was forming an presidential exploratory committee, trails eight others Republicans who may seeking the party’s nomination in name recognition, according to a Gallup Survey.

pawlenty, republican, name, recognitionPawlenty has 41 percent name recognition among Republican nationwide. That’s just two points higher than he had in January.

Meanwhile, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads the pack with 97 percent name recognition. Four other potential candidates have greater than 70 percent name recognition, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. All of them have either run for president before of have played a major role in Republican national politics.

Behind them comes U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann with 52 percent recognition. Pawlenty is grouped together with Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who have 41 percent and 42 percent recognition among Republicans.

Three other lesser none Republican came up with a rating of 35 percent or less in the poll: Indian Gov. Mitch Daniels, former Utah governor and ambassador to China John Huntsman, and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.
