Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hasn’t even announced herself as a presidential candidate for next year, and many don’t think she will. But that hasn’t stopped a group of left-wing activists from trying to take her down, Politico reports.

Sarah Palin, president, AlaskaThe attackers hope to gain acceptance of extreme rumors and conspiracy theories about Palin that the mainstream media have debunked. One of the activists is Sherry Whitstine, a neighbor of Palin’s in Wasilla. “We’re at a tipping point, where her character and her lack of ethics will be revealed on the national stage,” Whitstine said.

But a source close to Palin told Politico the broadsides are unlikely to have much impact. “There are many things that are said on the Web about Governor Palin that make it into the public domain. Many are so laughable, they don’t require a response.”
