Mitt Romney called President Barack Obama “one of the most ineffective presidents” to sit in the White House. The GOP presidential hopeful made the comments in an interview on NBC’s Today show, USA Today reports.

Romney plans to officially announce his candidacy on Thursday during an event in New Hampshire.

The former Massachusetts governor attacked the president for his handling of the economy.

"The No. 1 issue he faced walking in the door was an economy in fast decline. He didn't cause that, but he made things worse," Romney said.

Romney has not been very active on the campaign trail of late, but has been using his time to raise money for what many expect to be a record-breaking campaign.

In a one-day “call-a-thon,” Romney pulled in a record $10.25 million, according to the paper.
