Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann railed against a wide range of “liberal policies” Monday in a passionate speech she delivered to a religious conservative group in Iowa City, the Des Moines Register reported Tuesday
Bachmann, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination, called for a shutdown of several federal agencies, and for remaking the federal tax code.
Cutting off federal money that funds unwanted policies is the best way to get rid them, Bachmann said to a crowd of about 120 religious conservatives.
"What we need to do is expose these policies that we see on the left, expose them, and then No. 2, de-fund them," she said. "It's very important that we de-fund the left."
Bachmann said she supports abolishing the U.S. Department of Education "along with a few other agencies, by the way."
She said that the free-market can take care of the functions of the federal departments that oversee energy and commerce.
"Any place where we could abolish we should go ahead and cut back and abolish," she said. "The private sector can handle that on its own."
