Political pundits who are calling former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman a “rock-ribbed conservative” are lying, Rush Limbaugh said today on his radio show.

Former Utah Gov. Huntsman quit the race today and endorsed front-runner Mitt Romney — but not before pointing out their differences.

Huntsman endorsed Romney only because the former Massachusetts governor is the establishment pick, Limbaugh alleged.

“The only reason that candidate is Mitt Romney is because Huntsman’s a Republican,” he said. “He is a party man. He is a Republican, ergo, there you go.”

The media are spinning the story of Huntsman’s demise as a result of his nonpartisanship, Limbaugh said.

“He just wasn’t partisan enough for the haters in the Republican base,” Limbaugh said. “That’s the line that being used. He wouldn’t call [President Barack] Obama a Marxist. He wouldn’t call Obama a Socialist. He wouldn’t use the language of hate . . . and that’s why Huntsman didn’t have a prayer.”

Huntsman believes in gay rights and global warming, wants to surrender in the war on terror, and thinks the United States has a good relationship with China, Limbaugh said.

“Somebody explain to me how you can be the most conservative in the race and finish where he’s finishing in a primary of conservatives,” he said. “How can that be? Well, it can’t be, so who’s lying to who here about who is a conservative?”
