Many Republican moderates are excited about the presidential campaign of former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman. Soon the people of New Hampshire will get to see him up close and personal. President Barack Obama’s former ambassador to China is about to begin a five-day tour through the nation’s first primary state, Politico reports.
Huntsman has kept a low profile so far, and now he has to step it up, GOP operatives say.
“Huntsman needs to connect with people,” says Travis Blais, party chairman in Windham, N.H.
“He obviously needs to dispel any suspicion that he’s not conservative enough to win the Republican nomination.
"The guy’s got a great resume, but so does Tim Pawlenty. So does Rick Santorum," Blais adds.
"It’s got to be, ‘Why Jon Huntsman?’”
