Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is mulling a second run for the presidency, has indicated that he may wait until August to jump into the race officially. Huckabee, who sits atop several national polls for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, may decide internally by late June or July whether he’ll enter the race, however, U.S. News & World Report reported Thursday.

Mike Huckabee, president, august"He is seriously considering the race,” said a close associate of Huckabee. “He could decide in the next four to six weeks. He knows that he cannot wait forever."

Huckabee may be timing his announcement for right before the Iowa Straw Poll, which is scheduled for Aug. 13. During his first presidential run four years ago, Huckabee came in second behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the straw poll. That eventually spurred him to victory in the 2008 Iowa Caucus.

Insiders say that Huckabee isn't "agonizing" over his decision. Some of his advisers want him to make a June 1 announcement.
But Huckabee believes he still has time to decide in large part because he has good name recognition and the fact that he is polling well.
