Former Florida state Rep. Adam Hasner’s $560,000 in fundraising for the recent quarter lags far behind the $900,000 that state Senate President Mike Haridopolos raised in their quests for the GOP nod to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, but he’s not worried, according to the Central Florida Political Pulse blog in the Orlando Sentinel.
Hasner said he expects his other major GOP primary rival, former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, to beat his total, too.
“We always expected the two establishment opponents to start off raising more money than us, because that’s what the establishment does,” Hasner said. “But we’ll ultimately win this race because of our positive conservative principles and a growing grass-roots movement that’s looking for leaders who’ll stand up to Democrats and Republicans who act like them.
“Thanks to a growing and energized grass-roots base, today is a great start for our campaign and a promising foundation for the long haul.”
A recent St. Pete Times Insider survey tabbed Hasner as the favorite, the Pulse reported.
