President Barack Obama’s partisan speech about the budget has sparked support for the 2012 budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., many Republicans say. GOP optimism is running high for the House Budget Committee Chairman’s plan, The Hill reports.

obama, speech, helps, gop“I think the president helped us,” Ryan said. Freshman Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Ga., agrees. “If anything it galvanized enthusiasm,” he said of Obama’s speech.

Republicans aren’t too impressed with Obama’s recommendation that House and Senate leaders choose 16 members to negotiate a deficit reduction strategy with Vice President Joe Biden.

“We heard a pitch again yesterday about the need for another commission, even though the president utterly ignored the last one,” said House Speaker John Boehner.
