A focus group assembled on Sean Hannity's Fox News show by pollster Frank Luntz Thursday overwhelming blamed the Obama administration and Congress for the nation’s sagging economy and soaring unemployment and questioned how those that created the problem can be part of the solution.
“They just need to get out of the way — they try to do too much,” one audience member said. “Too much regulation, too much Obamacare, not balancing a budget — just get out of way, let free markets take hold.”
“If we all assume that they are the problem, how can we possibly assume they are the solution?” another man said. “I mean, it can’t be possible.”
Luntz asked whether the Atlanta focus group — which he said was divided between people who voted for President Barack Obama and those who chose Sen. John McCain in 2008 — heard anything in Obama’s speech that indicated an economic recovery was in the works. A majority said no.
Luntz then asked “How many of you say you’re mad as hell.” Almost all hands were raised.
“It sounds all the same, same old rhetoric — pass the bill, read it later,” an audience member said. “He could have replaced Obamacare with this jobs bill.”
“It’s all short term stuff — and what businesses want is, they want to be able to plan long term,” another man said.
Luntz wondered whether Obama’s speech was about his 2012 campaign and re-election.
An overwhelming chorus of “re-election.”
Luntz then asked people who voted for Obama to defend him.
