House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says Republicans fought hard to preserve bans on abortion in the 2011 budget deal reached late Eric Cantor, Abortion, Government ShutdownFriday night, Politico reports.

“We believe very strongly that we ought not to be spending tax payer dollars to fund abortion,” Cantor said on "Fox News Sunday." “We fought very hard for that.”

Cantor said the issue of funding for Planned Parenthood is about the “fungibility of money,” not whether federal funds are actually used to fund abortions, which account for only three percent of the organization’s operations.
