It’s not just liberals who want the United States to end its participation in the war in Afghanistan. Opposition also has spread among House Republicans, Politico reports.

support, end, afghan, warThat sentiment began with tea party members but now extends to mainstream conservatives and moderates. Earlier this week, Oregon Rep. Greg Walden told a meeting of top Republican leaders that he “had concerns that he was hearing from all over the country” about Afghanistan, a Republican congressman who was present told Politico.

House Speaker John Boehner has firmly rejected the notion of withdrawal. But Republican Reps. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, John Campbell of California, John Duncan of Tennessee and Walter Jones of North Carolina joined forces with several Democrats to send President Barack Obama a letter this week urging him to “re-examine our policy of nation building in Afghanistan.”
