Sen. Dick Lugar, R-Ind., who faces a conservative Republican challenger in next year’s primary for his seat, has little to worry about when it comes to money.

He raised $973,000 in the first quarter, lifting his cash on hand to more than $3 million, his campaign announced Monday, according to The Hill.

Dick Lugar
Lugar’s opponent, Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, raised $159,000 in the first quarter and has said regularly that he doesn’t expect to compete with Lugar when it comes to fundraising.

As for the incumbent, his campaign says it has received money from 5,000 individual donors so far for next year’s campaign, 88 percent whom live in Indiana. "We are building a solid grassroots organization of supporters, givers and volunteers across Indiana,” Lugar said.
